摘 要: In 1990, Ribet proved certain congruence properties between classical modular forms, which he called level raising and level lowering, and he used them to reduce the Fermat Last Theorem to Taniyama-Shimura-Weil conjecture. In this talk, I will first review Ribet’s classical work, and then discuss some recent progress on generalizations of Ribet’s results to unitary groups and their arithmetic applications.
